FAIRMONT — The Martin County internship program received the endorsement and a financial boost from the Fairmont Economic Development Authority.
Tammie Hested, coordinator of the program, presented a brief overview of the project, which connects college students from Martin County with local businesses for summer employment.
Each year, Martin County contributes $50,000, which covers the cost of 14 interns to work 29 hours per week at $10.50 per hour. Minnesota Valley Action Council serves as contractor by administering the funds, paying the students and covering all required insurance. There is no cost to the employer, and there are no income guidelines for the students.
